Beth Nation

Born in Sistersville, West Virginia and raised in Pittsburgh PA, Beth’s childhood is filled with memories of the summers she spent on the family's farm in West Virginia. She is drawn in by the beauty of the natural world, and shares an affinity for it in her writing; particularly the many manifestations of mood within rain. Her best loved season is the colorful, aromatic season of Autumn.

Beth began writing at about twelve years of age, in a diary. By thirteen, her thoughts in her own words, "bled onto the page in rhyme...often effortlessly."

To Beth, her writing is an extension of the way she truly feels, and truth comes through in her poetry. By writing, she found an outlet to express all her heartfelt thoughts that she was not able to express in life. It gave her strength and a creative extension to voice her feelings that has not failed her.

Her writing touches upon heartbreak, exposes abusive relationships, paints from her appreciation of nature and sings of romance.  It is sometimes raw, often revealing, and always an uncompromised view of what Beth Nation sees and feels on whatever the subject she is writing about.

Beth’s work can be found at Standoutwriters.com, where she is a charter member.  Here we proudly present a small sample of her work., but there is much more to read and appreciate.

‘Til Something Better Comes On By

Always second best
I'll never measure up

I heard him say...

Stay here by my side
‘til something better comes on by.
We have tonight
tomorrow will come soon enough;
For now we have each other,
love me into Summer.

Always second best
I'm never good enough

I heard him say...

I got nothing to do today,
won't you spend some time?
Come here and lie by me,
my bed is feeling cold.
Help me chase the chill away
love me into Fall.

Always second best
I'm nothing like the rest

I heard him say...

Cold air is blowing,
the fire is burning hot.
Snow is falling outside my door
will you come for me once more?
You melt my resolve;
I love you into Winter.

Always second best
Left standing in the dust

I heard you say...

You are but a memory,
I must say goodbye.
You know all too well
it was only for a while.
I have met the one,
that will love me into Spring;
Thank you for staying by my side
‘til something better came on by.

Listen…

Heart beats of love

Drumming softly in time

To your hearts whispering murmur

Obey
